Tate Modern

From Workstream Pulse, Winter 2015/16

The new Tate Modern extension adds much needed space to the gallery, which hosts five million visitors annually – twice as many as originally anticipated. (Since its opening in 2000, it has become by far the most popular museum of modern art in the world.) The extension will ultimately boast 21,000 square metres of new space set out over six levels: two for education and community outreach, four for new galleries, plus a restaurant, a cafe and a shop. It will also provide a new entrance on the south side of the building.

The Tate Modern extension project, managed by Mace, was over six years in the making and was completed in February 2016. Workstream has had a logistics team working there with building envelope specialist Prater.
