One Angel Square, Manchester

From Workstream Pulse, Summer 2014

Officially opened by HM the Queen towards the end of last year, the Co-operative Group's new £800 million head office in Manchester's Miller Street area has been declared the most environmentally-friendly building in the world. The Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM), an internationally acclaimed system of assessing buildings, gave One Angel Square the highest score ever awarded: 95.16%.

The glass-clad, 16-storey building comprises 325,000 square feet of open plan office space and a large central atrium. Its two basement floors include underground car parking, an auditorium and fitness facilities.

Workstream was asked by specialist façade contractor Waagner Biro to manage and deliver the logistics and installation package for One Angel Square's curtain walling at very short notice after its original supplier failed. Workstream ultimately placed over 150 operatives on the contract – ranging from installers to supervisors, with a full logistics crew and even office admins.

Waagner Biro became an early adopter of the Workstream Online Timesheets Entry System (WOTES) during this contract, which enabled the company to deal more speedily and effectively with the timesheets of its large temporary workforce and ensure that everyone got paid on time, every time.
